Esta investigación se centra en la búsqueda de entender las lógicas del funcionamiento de la ciudad que permitan comprender la evolución de los centros de la ciudad de Manta; cómo cambia su tipo estructura de organización y entender como se pasa de una ciudad tradicional con su centralidad y espacios de actividad económica de distancias relativamente cortas, a una ciudad de escala regional con distancias medidas en tiempos. Mediante el análisis empírico que nos da el conocimiento de los casos de estudio, se categoriza los diferentes ámbitos de influencias en los barrios en los que se observan centralidad. Se parte del estudio de las lógicas de emplazamiento, la funcionalidad de la malla urbana y el cambio en su tejido social que le otorgan características de centralidad; mediante el uso de fotos históricas aéreas se pudo evidenciar la construcción de la estructura urbana y así determinar cuando aparecieron las distintas actividades que le dieron el carácter de centralidad emergente; en contraposición se analizó el cambio de escala de estas estructuras, se evidenciaron cuáles de éstas tienen una influencia en el resto del territorio y empiezan a formar relaciones más fuertes con las ciudades conurbadas de Montecristi y Jaramijó.
The present work focuses on the search for understanding of the logics of the operation of the city that specifically understand the evolution of the centers of the city of Manta; how its type of structure and organization changes as a passenger of a traditional city with its centrality and economic activity spaces of relatively short distances, a city of regional scale with distances measured in times. Through the empirical analysis that gives us the knowledge of the case studies, the different areas of influences are classified in the neighborhoods in which a centrality is observed. The study part of the location logics, the functionality of the urban mesh and the change in its social fabric that give it centrality characteristics; through the use of historical photos, the construction of the urban structure could be evidenced and thus determine when the different activities that gave it the character of emergent centrality appeared; in contrast, the change in the scale of these structures was analyzed, they were evidenced in the rest of the territory and in the relations with the conurbated cities of Montecristi and Jaramijó.
